As a communal safe space for healing, an interactive and immersive sound garden creates a growing community choir of recorded birdsongs, each selected by visitors to memorialize a lost loved one. Using their phones or through this site, visitors select a birdsong and painting in memory and add the name to place their song in the garden.
鳴念成就一個社區療癒空間，將互動和沉浸式的聲音花園建構成不斷壯大的社區合唱團，由錄製的鳥鳴組成，每首鳥鳴都由參加者選擇，以紀念逝去的親人。參加者可以用手機選擇一首鳥鳴和一幅紀念畫，然後加上自己的名字，把鳥鳴放到花園裡。
They also receive a digital memento of the painting and song for social media sharing. Over the course of the exhibition, the garden fills with a choir of birdsongs from around the world, each representing someone lost but remembered.
參觀者們還會收到一份電子紀念品可用作社交媒體分享。在展覽期間，花園裡會響起來自世界各地的鳥鳴聲，每一聲鳥鳴都代表著逝去但被懷念的人。

Choose the perfect bird song by name, color or country of origin from nearly 200 bird songs from around the world, each interpreted in an original painting.

Creative Team 創意團隊
Scott Hessels (artistic director) and his design studio FugitiveColor create public artworks that use technology for richer social participation, with frameworks that include interactive collaboration and immersive spaces. Based in Hong Kong, US and Portugal, his projects span different media including moving image, data visualization, kinetic sculpture, and site-specific installation. His artworks have been presented internationally in exhibitions focusing on both technology and Fine Art. His recognitions include patents for developed technologies, references in books and periodicals on new media art, and coverage in popular cultural media.

Zoe Chan (co-producer) is a local innovator in New Media Art exhibition curation and development. Her projects have broken boundaries in both content and form, merging new technologies seamlessly with traditional performance and cultural art forms as well as siting the events in unexpected and meaningful venues and contexts. She is adept at the planning, execution, promotion, documentation and reporting of large-format works particularly in the Arts-Tech sector.
Zoe Chan（聯合製作人）是本地新媒體藝術展覽策劃和開發的創新者。她參與的項目在內容和形式上都打破傳統界限，將新技術與固定的表演和文化藝術形式完美融合，並將活動安排在意想不到和有意義的場所和環境中。她擅長大型作品的策劃、執行、推廣、記錄和報告，尤其是在藝術與科技領域。

Traditional Crafts in Emerging Technologies 新興技術中的傳統工藝
The nearly 200 hand-made ink and watercolour paintings by Chinese technical painter Li Changan bring centuries-old traditional crafts into today’s emerging technologies. His technique combines the Asian ink artistry of visual emphasis on mood and expression with Western oil painting’s focus on proportion and anatomy. Easily recognizable yet subtly abstracted, the dichotomy between emotion and realism reinforces the visitor’s nostalgic, sentimental connection with family and personal histories.
中國工筆劃家李長安的200幅手工水墨畫將幾百年的傳統工藝融入當今的新興技術。他的技法將亞洲水墨畫注重意境和表現的視覺藝術與西方油畫注重比例和解剖的技法相結合。作品易於辨認卻又巧妙抽象，情感與寫實之間的對立強化了參觀者對家庭和個人歷史的懷舊和感傷。
The project also addresses a new model of painting exhibition being enveloped in today’s creative technologies. After centuries of viewing individual, stand-alone paintings, full collections are suddenly a sought-after resource for immersive environments with hundreds of Van Gogh’s and Monet’s works now connected, layered, and multiplied within one environment. Traditional paintings are now creating dynamic, interactive databases and finding a new power and utility.

Memorial Birdsongs’ database of ink and natural music merge with a complex mix of innovative technologies including android/iOS interface design and programming, geo-placed and live-mixed sound, on-site nodal computational networks, and mobile delivery across multiple social media. The evocative elements of traditional painting conceal the project’s new techs and make the larger theme and message behind Memorial Birdsongs more human and more memorable.

Shared public spaces to remember lost loved ones are a tradition in nearly every culture; a ‘soft’ heritage of communal healing, inclusion and mutual support.

However, these fragile united moments can also be hijacked to spread hatred. When the door is left open for inclusion, it is also left open for hate.

Every project produced by the three partners acknowledges that the scale of new media art production requires bespoke design processes; we adopt small-scale production models with locally sourced materials and tradespeople. The emerging Arts+Tech developments in Hong Kong must retain our community identity but also stimulate small business growth to endure. A new tech environment is beginning in regional Arts, and the ‘making’ must be sustainable.
三個合作夥伴的每個項目都認同，新媒體藝術生產的規模需要定制的設計流程；我們採用小規模生產模式，使用本地採購的材料和工匠。香港新興的「藝術+科技」（Arts+Tech）發展必須保留我們的社區特色，同時也要刺激小型企業的發展，這樣才能持續下去。一個新的科技環境正在區域藝術中開始，而「製造」必須是可持續的。
